From London (55 miles): take the A3 towards Guildford and Southampton. Approx. seven miles after Guildford, take the Milford turn off onto A283 to Petworth. Follow the one-way system through Petworth centre and take the A285 south towards Chichester to Heath End.

From the North West: follow the meandering A272 from Winchester through Petersfield and Midhurst to Petworth then take the A285 south to Heath End.

From the South West: follow the M27 and A27 Chichester Bypass before taking the A285 north to Heath End.

All routes: at Heath End turn onto Burton Park Road, marked with a brown tourist sign for ‘White Horse Inn’ and signposted to Sutton. In one mile, turn right towards Sutton, also marked with a brown tourist sign. Follow the road for 1.5 miles to the parish church of Saint John Baptist. The White Horse Inn is one mile further on the right-hand side. If the car park at the rear is full, guests can make use of the signposted Village Hall car park across the road.

  • BY TAXI

Taxi's are notoriously difficult to arrange in our rural hideaway, so making plans well in advance is essential. Don't forget about your return journey either and aim to book that in advance too. We regret that we are unable to make arrangements on your behalf.

    For local journeys consider:

    MJ Cars

    South Down Taxis

    Rother Valley Private Hire

For Chichester & Goodwood, Starline Mini Cabs may be helpful and for Arundel, Castle Cars are well established.

  • BY TRAIN

Pulborough railway station is only six miles from the inn - 15 minutes by taxi - connected by Southern Railway services to London Victoria and London Bridge, Portsmouth & Southsea and Southampton Central.

  • BY BIKE

The South Downs have something for every kind of cyclist to enjoy and explore. As well as the famous South Downs Way to explore there are 1,200 km of car-free bridleways across the national park, miles of leafy country lanes and old railway trails including the downs link and Centurion Way.

The 160km long South Downs Way is the only UK’s national trail which is fully traversable by bike and there are many ways to enjoy it. You could ride along the ridge to reach Ditchling beacon and enjoy the view or cycle along the Hampshire hangers and single-track mountain bike trails at queen Elizabeth country park.

From Bignor Hill you can drop down into Bignor on a tarmac track. Just beyond the farm take a left towards Holy Cross Church. At the junction in front of the church, take another left. Then follow the road until you see the pub. 2.1 miles, 9 minutes.

We don't offer secure cycle parking so please travel with your own lock. Bicycles can't be taken into your room for storage.
